While the Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview is a great new experience for Windows Phone users, it is still far from complete. Due to various bugs still found in the OS, you may want to revert your device back to the more stable Windows Phone 8.1 The following Step by Step guide will show you how to downgrade Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview to Windows Phone 8.1 Before proceeding, make sure you backup all your data from your device as the process will completely wipe your device. - Download and install the latest Windows Phone Recovery Tool from Microsoft on your Windows PC.
- Connect your Windows 10 Mobile device to your computer and wait for it to be detected by the app.
- If your device is not detected, click on the 'My phone was not detected' button and follow the instructions.
- Once your device is detected, selected it within the Recovery Tool app.
- The next screen will show the software version. You will need to click on the 'reinstall software' button.
- The recovery tool will now download and install the firmware for you, but keep in mind that this process can take awhile depending on your Internet speed. The file can measure around 1.7GB in size. Make sure that the USB cable is not disconnected throughout this process.
- The process will complete without any error. At the end, you will receive a message “Operation successfully completed”.
